With growing economic inequality, inadequate supply of affordable housing, broad gaps in educational achievement, and insufficient living wages, the work of our City’s robust nonprofit sector has never been more important.
It is critically important that tomorrow’s nonprofit executive directors and managers have the necessary knowledge and skills to guide their organizations in the future in successfully addressing the challenges and opportunities facing New Yorkers.
The New York Community Trust Leadership Fellows was created in 2015 in partnership with the Baruch College School of Public Affairs. Upon completion of the program, Fellows will receive a certificate from the Office of Executive Programs of the Baruch College School of Public Affairs.

Program overview
The program consists of 16 sessions in total, designed to strengthen the participants’ knowledge and skills in five core areas:
- Leadership
- Management
- Financial Planning
- Resource Mobilization
- Communications
Fellows will participate in 12 class sessions and 4 Dean’s Dinners. Distinguished faculty from the Baruch College School of Public Affairs and experienced practitioners will teach the class sessions.
The programs features:
- A curriculum taught through the lens of real-world issues and trends
- Real-time projects related to each Fellow’s organization that address a particular challenge or opportunity
- 4 Dean’s Dinners hosted by Dean David Birdsell of the Baruch College School of Public Affairs, where fellows connect with nonprofit sector and government leaders.
Eligibility
Nominations are open to a current mid-career professionals of an organization that has received a grant within the last three years from The New York Community Trust, the Westchester Community Foundation, or the Long Island Community Foundation. The chief executive officer or executive director can nominate an exceptional individual who has demonstrated managerial and/or leadership talent for acceptance into the program.”
Class Schedule
The class sessions will be held every Friday beginning March 18, 2016 and ending on June 10, 2016 with the exception of April 29th.
Spring 2016 Cohort Graduation
The graduation celebration for the spring 2016 cohort is scheduled for Friday, June 24th.
Dean’s Dinners
The spring 2016 Dean’s Dinners will be held on the following dates:
- Monday, March 28th 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Monday, April 18th 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Monday, May 23rd 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Monday, June 6th 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Open Houses
The Fellowship has scheduled two open houses for prospective applicants and
their executive directors. The open houses will introduce you to the staff of the fellowship
and present an opportunity to hear from Fellowship alumni, faculty, and mentors.
- Wednesday, February 17th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- Monday, February 22nd from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
